The Student Union POKA is a multicultural community that values diversity and intercultural dialogue. Language and cultural awareness promote an open and inclusive environment for all students.​

The goal is that all official announcements, documents, events, and other activities of POKA are accessible in both Finnish and English whenever possible. The language used in events and gatherings should take into account the participants’ language skills and diversity. Using language and cultural-aware communication makes the student union’s messages clearer and helps make everything more accessible and inclusive for everyone.​

POKA recognizes and values cultural diversity and acts inclusively towards all cultural backgrounds. We organize events, leisure activities, and peer support forms where students can learn from each other.​

POKA trains its actors in language and cultural awareness.

How we operate:

• We value all languages and cultures and accept their presence in our daily lives.
• We build interactions that support everyone’s inclusion.
• We enhance situational awareness in discussions related to language and culture.
• We learn to understand our own culture and values to increase understanding towards others.
• We avoid prejudices and stereotypes.
• We act in accordance with the Karelia safer space guidelines.
