How do I get a student card?

You can order a student card by filling in the membership application form, at the same time you become a member of POKA.

I am a pathway student. Can I get a student card?

As a pathway student, you are welcome to become a POKA member and participate in POKA activities, such as events and Into activities. You will also be part of our advocacy. As a pathway student, you will not be able to take advantage of Kela, VR and Matkahuolto student benefits.

I ordered a plastic student card, where does it come from and when can I get it?

The plastic student card will arrive at the POKA office on your campus within approximately two weeks of ordering the card. You will receive an email when the card is available for picking up.

Why my card in Tuudo is still shown in pink even tough I am a member of POKA?

1. Go from the side menu to Tuudo’s settings. 2. Scroll down where it says “student card”. 3. Select “Remove card from cache” and select save. 4. Now, at the top of the side menu, select the student card again next to your name and your card is ready to be used!

I ordered a plastic student card but did not pay for it online. Is my student card still ordered and how do I pay?

If you do not pay online, you can pay at our office. In addition to the membership fee, we charge a one-off fee of €6 for all new plastic student cards to cover the cost of making the card.

I ordered a plastic student card, how do I know it’s available?

You will receive an email when the card is available for collection.

I ordered and paid for a plastic student card, but I can’t pick it up. Can you post the card?

You can arrange for the card to be posted. Please note that you can choose to have the card posted (€4) when you apply for membership.

I ordered and paid for a plastic student card, but I can’t pick it up during office hours. Can I collect the card elsewhere?

No, you can’t. If you are unable to pick up your student card during office hours, you can contact us to make an appointment. Alternatively, you can arrange to have your card posted.

I am already a member of POKA, but I need a new plastic student card to replace a lost/broken one. Where can I order a new student card?

You can order a new plastic student card or use a mobile student card. We charge a one-off fee of €6 for all reordered student cards to cover the cost of producing the card.

I am already a POKA member, but my name has changed and I need a new plastic student card with my new name. Where can I order a new student card?

You can edit your details and order a new student card by sending an email to [email protected]. We will charge a one-off fee of €6 for all reordered plastic student cards to cover the cost of producing the card.

I have a plastic student card from another student union, can I use it and just buy a new valid membership from POKA?

You cannot, you must become a member of POKA and pay the POKA membership fee. As a POKA member, you will receive a valid student card.

I graduated, what do I do with my student card?

Your student card expires upon graduation, after which you are no longer eligible for student union membership or student benefits. Mobile student card will expire automatically.

Membership
What is the difference between semester and (academic) year stickers and until when are they valid?

Semester stickers are valid for the autumn or spring semester, i.e. from August to the end of January or from January to the end of September. An academic year sticker is valid for the whole academic year, from August to the end of September of the following year. In the autumn term, you can choose to be a member for the whole academic year. However, if your studies end after the autumn term, you must choose a semester membership for the autumn term only. In the spring term, you can choose to join for the calendar year or the spring semester.

I renewed and paid my membership online, but I can’t pick up my new semester sticker. Can you mail me just the sticker?

We are unable to mail a single sticker. If you are unable to pick up your year sticker from our office, you will need to send your student card with your name, address and stamped envelope to our office so that we can mail your new year sticker back to you. Please ensure that you have paid for your renewal online in advance or that your multi-year membership is valid. If you use a mobile student card, you do not need to collect a new sticker for your plastic card.

I renewed and paid for my membership online, but I can’t pick up my new multi-year sticker during office hours. Can I pick up a sticker elsewhere?

You can’t. You can contact us to make an appointment. Alternatively, you can send your student card with your name, address and stamped envelope to our office so that we can post your new student card back to you. Please ensure that you have paid for your renewal online in advance or that your multi-year membership is valid. If you use a mobile student card, you do not need to collect a new sticker for your plastic card.

I have paid for my multiannual membership. How long is my membership valid for?

A multi-year membership covers the normal duration of your study programme (2.5-4 years depending on the studies). The membership fee is paid separately for the period beyond the normal period of study. If you graduate/drop out, your membership will automatically expire.

I have paid for a multi-year membership, but I am taking a break from my studies for a semester/year. Will my membership expire when I am away?

If you are absent between studies, please let us know and your membership will be suspended for the period of absence and resume accordingly as your studies continue. If no notification is made, your membership will expire as normal.

I have paid for a multi-year membership, can I get the full time valid sticker for my entire study period in one go?

Year stickers arrive at our office for each academic year, so even multi-year members must apply for a new sticker on their plastic student card from our office each year. With a mobile student card, your membership will continue as normal for the duration of your multi-year membership. Please note that the mobile student card will only show your membership for the time you are enrolled in attendance at any one time.

I am a second year student, can I still buy a multi-year membership?

Multi-year memberships are only available to first year students.

I want to continue my membership, but I can’t log in. What do I do?

Check that you have entered your details in the login window exactly as they appear on your student card and that your student number is correct. If the problems persist, please email: [email protected].

I graduated, what happens to my membership?

Your study rights will end upon graduation, after which you will no longer be eligible for Student Union membership or a student card. Your mobile student card will automatically expire.

Offices
I went to your office, but it was not open. Where can I get up-to-date information on office opening hours?

We try to be open on weekdays during the day, whenever we are not closed for meetings, etc. You are always welcome when the door is open! You can also make an appointment at [email protected] (Tikkarinne) or [email protected] (Wärtsilä).

I can’t visit your office during opening hours, can I visit outside opening hours?

Yes, you can, contact us and we will make an appointment for you!
